Immigration is a transformative process that has profound implications and impact on the development and socioemotional well-being of immigrant youth. Throughout the three stages of migration (pre-, peri-, and post-), immigrant youth are exposed to trauma, grief, and loss that are compounded by the stressors of migration. Because schools are the first social spaces that immigrant youth navigate, school social workers play a pivotal role in the provision of culturally responsive services and advocacy of immigrant youth in schools. This webinar will discuss the risk and protective factors and migratory grief and loss experiences of immigrant youth across the tripartite contexts of migration. The webinar also provides school social workers with recommendations on a culturally, trauma, and grief/loss responsive approach to working with Immigrant youth in schools using a cultural brokering framework, which emphasizes the importance of helping immigrant youth make connections that foster resilience and reduce isolation. This webinar is eligible for 1 CEU.To ensure you receive CEUs for this event, please participate using a computer or tablet. Use of cell phones is not recommended.
