The profession of school social work was pioneered circa 1906 by teachers who sought to bridge communication between the school and home through the work of home visiting. As a result, home visiting has remained the cornerstone of our profession, but little instruction is provided through education or professional development. This webinar will focus on the effectiveness of purposeful home visiting, safety considerations, and cultural competencies necessary for productive outcomes. Additionally, participants will connect the practice of home visiting to the SSW National Practice model. This webinar is eligible for 1 CEU. To ensure you receive CEUs for this event, please participate using a computer or tablet. Use of cell phones is not recommended. State licensing requirements are different by state; please review your state's requirements and ensure that CEUs offered by an institution of higher education are accepted.
Beliefs or Rationale:
SSWAA welcomes a diversity of viewpoints expressed in a respectful manner. SSWAA also recognizes that social workers can agree to disagree agreeably, and still remain professional.
Some speakers may express views that are inconsistent with good self-care, competence, or ethics. When this occurs, the NASW Code of Ethics specifically states that the colleague should be professionally approached and communicated with directly, before escalating the conflict or disagreement to another level. This may not always be possible or the colleague may be unresponsive to feedback. In these circumstances, SSWAA recommends addressing it with leadership of the organization or the proper authority.
